Bell High School has courses in mathematics for all grade levels, as well as various business and computer science courses.

Mathematics

For students taking the full four years of academic math courses, the curriculum begins in Grade 9 Academic Math with the introduction of linear equations and fundamental algebraic principles. Grade 10 Academic Math introduces the solving of linear and quadratic equations as well as the basic trigonometric functions. Grade 11 Functions expresses linear, quadratic and sinusoidal equations as functions which are transformed and manipulated. It also introduces operations with radicals as well as the secondary (inverse) trigonometric functions.

Grade 12 Advanced Functions introduces logarithms, rational, polynomial and trigonometric functions in more detail, and develop techniques for combining functions. Students can also take Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors which introduces fundamental operations involving vectors and basic differentiation. At Bell, Students can generally also take AP Calculus which also covers integration in preparation for the AP Calculus Exam. In Grade 12 Data Management, students learn the basics of probability and statistical analysis and functions.

In the applied and college streams, students have the option of starting with Foundations of Mathematics in Grades 9 and 10, where students learn basic algebra, linear and quadratic relations through a more hands-on approach. Foundations for College Mathematics in Grades 11 and 12 will further consolidate students' understanding of fundamental relations and will prepare students to use trigonometric, financial, statistical, geometric and other concepts in real life.

Business

Business courses include Accounting, Marketing and more general courses. In grade 9, students can take Information and Communication Technology, which teaches the fundamentals of using computers in a business environment, including the use of spreadsheets and slideshow presentations. In grade 10, Introduction to Business course teaches the basics of business and marketing. Grade 11 Marketing teaches the fundamentals of marketing goods, services and events, and Grade 11 Accounting teaches the basics of understanding of accounting for a service and a merchandising business, computerized accounting and financial analysis.

Grade 12 students may continue to take Financial and Accounting Fundamentals which will prepare them for post-secondary studies in business and expands their knowledge of finances and accounting through analysis and interpretation of financial statements. The grade 12 course International Business Fundamentals explores the role of trade and business in the world economy and teaches students marketing, distribution and management internationally.

Computer Science

Computer Science courses begin in Grade 10 with Computer and Information Science, teaching the basics of programming and the programming process. Students learn procedures, variables and other key programming constructs. In grades 10 and 11, Bell High School uses the Turing programming language, specifically designed to be easy to learn yet full-featured. Able students can skip directly to the Grade 11 programming course which introduces arrays, bubble sort and are challenged to extend their programming knowledge.

In grade 12, there is a shift to the C/C++ programming language with Grade 12 Computer and Information Science. Students learn more about abstract computer science concepts instead of programming constructs, with the introduction of the stack, heap, quicksort, merge sort, structures and linked lists, pointers, classes and others.
