General Information

This is a grade 10 course. This course is a Science course, and more information can be found at the Science and Technological Studies department. Prerequisites: SNC1D or similar.

Course Description

This course enables students to develop a deeper understanding of concepts in biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and physics; to further develop their skills in scientific inquiry; and to understand the interrelationships among science, technology, and the environment. Students will conduct investigations and understand scientific theories related to: ecology and the maintenance of ecosystems; chemical reactions, with particular attention to acid-base reactions; factors that influence weather systems; and motion.

In addition, this is a gifted course, as part of the school board's gifted program. Students that are currently eligable for the gifted program may choose to take this course, or any other course, instead of a regular course. For the non-gifted course, see SNC2D.

This course is an academic course, which focuses on the general concepts of this discipline and explores related concepts as well. This course uses abstract and theoretical applications of essential concepts and incorporates pratical applications when appropriate. This emphasis on theory and abstract thinking acts as a basis for futher problem solving.
