General Information

This is a grade 9 course. This course is a Science course, and more information can be found at the Science and Technological Studies department. Prerequisites: None.

Course Description

This course enables students to understand basic concepts in biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and physics; to develop skills in the processes of scientific inquiry; and to relate science to technology, society, and the environment. Students will learn scientific theories and conduct investigations related to cell division and reproduction; atomic and molecular structures and the properties of elements and compounds; the universe and space exploration; and the principles of electricity.

This course is an ESL course. Those participating in the ESL program may choose to take this course. For the standard English course, see SNC1D.

This course is an academic course, which focuses on the general concepts of this discipline and explores related concepts as well. This course uses abstract and theoretical applications of essential concepts and incorporates pratical applications when appropriate. This emphasis on theory and abstract thinking acts as a basis for futher problem solving.
