General Information

This is a grade 9 course. This course is a Canadian and World Studies, and more information can be found at the Canadian and World Studies department. Prerequisites: None.

Course Description

This course explores Canada's distinct and changing character and the geographic systems and relationships that shape it. Students will investigate the interactions of natural and human systems within Canada as well as Canada's economic, cultural, and environmental connections to other countries. Students will use a variety of geotechnologies and inquiry and communication methods to analyse and evaluate geographic issues and present their findings.

In addition, this is a gifted course, as part of the school board's gifted program. Students that are currently eligable for the gifted program may choose to take this course, or any other course, instead of a regular course. For the non-gifted course, see CGC1D.

This course is an academic course, which focuses on the general concepts of this discipline and explores related concepts as well. This course uses abstract and theoretical applications of essential concepts and incorporates pratical applications when appropriate. This emphasis on theory and abstract thinking acts as a basis for futher problem solving.
