Bell High School Student-Athlete Code of Behaviour
1. As a representative of the school, Student-Athletes must behave appropriately and not violate the Bell Student Athlete Code ofBehaviour. Inappropriate behaviour reflects negatively on the team and school.
2. A player's first obligation at Bell is that of a student. He/she must be listed present, on time, and attend classes for at least 50% ofthe school day to play in a game that day. Skipping classes on game day will result in disciplinary action, which is at-least a one-gamesuspension. If an athlete misses class the day of practices or games they must be justified with a call or note from parent or guardian.Marks are important and as a student athlete this is always the case. If school administration deems that an athlete is not meetingacademic standards of his or her classes the athlete may be removed from that team until his or her marks and or effort improve.Additional disciplinary action may be levied by school administration if overall school attendance and achievement becomes an issue. This may include removal from a school team.
3. The Opportunity Room is a regularly scheduled academic opportunity for students at Bell High School. If an athlete has beenassigned opportunity room he or she must attend it and is ineligible to play a game or attend practice that day. If the student does notattend opportunity room he or she may be subject to further sanctions at the school and team level.
4. Students who are suspended, (as in-school or out of school) or from athletics, the day of a game or practice are not permitted toplay, practice or be present at a practice or game, whether it is at home or away.
5. Athletes must commit themselves to their team. Players who miss practices or games without a coach's prior knowledge andapproval can expect disciplinary action to be administered by the coach in consultation with the Athletic Director.
6. If a player chooses to quit a team during the season, the player should discuss the matter with the coach and the Athletic Director. If after the discussion, it is recommended that the player remain with the team, but the player chooses to quit, he/she may not bepermitted to play on another school team for the remainder of that academic year or for the next 12 months. The final decision will bedecided upon by the Athletic Director in consultation with coaches and administration.
7. Coaches, referees, minor officials, opposing players and coaches, and fans are to be treated with respect and dignity. Failure to doso will result in disciplinary action to be administered by the coach in consultation with the Athletic Director. At any time if a coach, teacher supervisor, or Athletic Director determine that a players actions during a game are disrespectful, boisterous and not in linewith the proper athlete behaviour the player can be removed from the playing field.
8. A player in disagreement with the actions and/or decisions of a coach or team member should discuss the matter with the coach. The player may consult the Athletic Director at any time.
9. Bell High School, as a member school of the NCSSAA and OFSAA, will follow the constitution and by-laws of these associations. The NCSSAA constitution is available for reading in the Athletic Directors office.
10. Unless otherwise specified, failure to abide by the expectations listed above may result in disciplinary action up to and includingthe loss of playing privileges for that team. If deemed necessary, the Athletic Director and Administration may consider the removalof an athlete from all school teams.
11. I am responsible for all uniforms and/or equipment that are issued to me. Failure to return uniforms and/or equipment, or return itin good condition, will result in the payment of the replacement value of such uniforms and/or equipment.
12. If a Student Athlete wants to participate on two school teams with overlapping seasons he or she must meet with coaches fromboth teams and the Athletic Director to determine if it is possible. A primary sport must be determined and this sport takesprecedence. If an athlete is already a part of a team and decides to try out for another team, the primary sport is automatically the firstsport they are a part of.
I have read and understand the expectations.
