BTW/H1N1 update/PTI’s

Hello,

By this time you should have received a progress report by ground mail to your home. Each student had one anecdotal report mailed home to parents/guardians this past week. These anecdotal reports are designed to give you, our parents, a “snapshop” of how things are going in each of your child’s classes. Following these important documents are parent-teacher interviews being held this Wednesday October 21, 2009 beginning at 4 p.m. All parents are encouraged to visit teachers on this evening. Appointments are booked using the schedule on the back of each progress report you received. Students transport these documents back to their teachers to confirm a time. Students in turn bring the confirmed time home to parents. We very much look forward to seeing you Wednesday night!

Please see the most recent update from Ottawa Public Health on the H1N1 virus and schools.

BTW

Hello,

There remain two weeks and one day of regular classes. This means that the last day for regular classes is June 15, 2009. Exams begin on June 16, 2009. All students have received a copy of the exam schedule and this document may also be found on this websites main page. If you have questions pertaining to exam dates and times please feel free to visit this calendar.

As teachers wind down the semester, students find themselves immersed in summative evaluations. While these evaluations have taken place in some courses, they continue and will be upcoming in others. These evaluations help to make up the 30% summative portion of student evaluation in each of their courses and provide every student with the opportunity to showcase for their teachers the skills and knowledge they have acquired over the course of the semester.

Thanks for you ongoing support. Please find attached this weeks copy of Bell This Week.

OCTranspo service/Option Sheets/BTW

Hello,

A busy but successful start-up to semester 2 has begun with one full week under our belts. As we continue down this road it is important to remember that we, along with students, are in the planning phases for next year and students will be receiving course contracts next week. It is important that you work with your children in guiding their course choices. To faciliate this process we are providing an information evening on Wednesday February 18, 2009 beginning at 7 p.m. in the school cafetorium. The purpose of this evening is to present what we feel is important for you to know about completing these course contracts with your children and more importantly provide any guidance and help we can by answering your questions. We look forward to hosting you this evening so please join us for what we hope you will find a helpful and informative session.

Course contracts have been posted as being due February 20, 2009. This deadline has been extended to Tuesday February 24, 2009 to provide students and their families with a bit more time on the heels of the parent information evening to make course choices for next year. In terms of those choices, please note that these are very important decisions. The requests students make are those that are used to staff the school for next year, so students are asked to choose very carefully. Sufficient interest in any subject area leads to the hiring of teachers to deliver the curriculum there in the Spring. Significant changes in course options over the summer after hiring has been completed can be problematic from a staffing perspective and no guarantees can be made at that time.

OC Transpo buses (600 series) will begin to run again Monday February 9, 2009. The following message from the OCDSB is being passed on for your information:

As you know the OC Transpo strike is over and effective Saturday, February 7, 2009 OC Transpo Service will resume.

OC Transpo has announced that it will phase in their transit service over the next few weeks but have given priority to having all “600″ series school specials operating as well as other key school trips effective Monday, February 9, 2009.

For a complete detailed list of OC Transpo trips that are operating starting Monday, February 9, 2009 please check the OC Transpo website at: www.octranspo.com Please note that while on the OC Transpo website you can use their on-line “TRAVEL PLANNER” to plan detailed trips to your school during the phased-in transit service period. Also, please note that OC Transpo schedules are also available by telephone at 613-560-1000.

The local school boards will keep their yellow bus contingency routes operating for Monday, February 9 and Tuesday, February 10 to assist families during the first two days of the phased-in transit service. We plan to discontinue all yellow bus contingency routes effective Wednesday, February 11, 2009.

Please note that the February transit passes have been sent out to schools for distribution and students may use their December pass to start riding the OC Transpo buses again on Monday, February 9.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we move through the next few weeks.

Bell This Week

Hello,

A reminder to all parents that exams begin this week, Friday January 23, 2009. Students are busy completing summative evaluations in classes and preparing for final examinations. Please note that as a means of supporting students and in consideration of the OC Transpo work interruption that continues, morning exams will begin at 9:30 a.m. instead of the previous time of 9:00 a.m. This will allow time for students to arrive on yellow buses transporting students in place of the former 600 series that typically transports students on a daily basis.Â

Please see the attached calendar for the week of January 19 – 23.

Potential OC Transpo Strike Communication

Hello,

Please see the attached letter from the Dr. Lyall Thomson, Director of Education for the OCDSB regarding the OC Transpo Strike potentially beginning Dec. 10, 2008. Talks are continuing and we do hope a settlement is reached by the deadline so that no disruption to students and their families occurs.
